OUR SUMMER

semfest
Our first “summer fun” happened at the beginning of July. As a group of clients and staff, we attended a wonderful festival SEMFEST, which was held from July 3-5, in the village Zariecie Puchov. We slept in tents, played football, and heard many different music and performance groups. Everyone had a good time, and attending this festival will most likely become a tradition for us!

camp
Then, from the 6-10th lf July, our building “Mlyn” hosted an English day camp. This was the third time we have participated in hosting this camp, and the camp served children from Velky Slavkov, Poprad, and the surrounding area, attracting children ages 8-15. Though this activity is a little out of our normal range of service, we are happy that our facility can assist in other ministries. Every child who attended heard the word of God and learned more about Him, and overall, the camp was a very blessed time for everyone who participated. We thank the American teachers from EEMN for coming to serve, and we also thank the Evangelical Center for Mass Media for helping us to advertise and prepare for this camp.

kaija
Another joyful part of the summer for us was a visit from Kaija, a former volunteer from America. Kaija came in July and stayed with us for three weeks. While practicing her Slovak, Kaija translated our website into English. In August, a link to the English translation was placed in the upper left-hand corner of our website. Kaija has spent enough time around the boys and survived enough life in Slovakia that we can confidently say that she feels at home here. Kaija, thank you for your visit!

no
Toward the end of July, we welcomed more visits, and each had something in common: the visitors were from abroad, and even from one place: Korea!
First, the No couple from the Korean synod in Düsseldorf, Germany visited. They first visited us three years ago, with a larger group from their church. The Noos stayed with us for several days, and for three years, since our first meeting, they have been committed to supporting our work in prayer and financial aid. They will continue to support our work through prayer, and we hope to see them again! We thank the Noos for their financial gift (€ 700) from their church, and also for their volunteer work of providing haircuts for the clients and their love through their presence and service to God.
korejci
After this visit, a larger group of Koreans from the Missio Dei organization came for two evenings. We not only had a chance to taste traditional Korean food, but we also had a time for community where we could pray for one another. Though a lot of the conversation took place through pantomime because of the various language barriers, nothing could spoil the atmosphere of friendship and goodwill between us.

We thank God for these opportunities and meetings!

A FULL LIFE!
- Project evaluation

pocitace
SEM (the national evangelical youth organization of Slovakia), with the support of the Endowment fund of Slovak Telekom and the Ministry of Education, implemented a project in our facility with the theme A full life!

The project aimed to promote and develop information and communication technology skills for young people who have left children's homes, graduates of special boarding schools, and young people without shelter.

FIRST VEBABOX MANUFACTURING
vebabox
From April 1st, 2009, we partnered with VebaBox to start a production run. Our clients work in cooperation with VebaBox, producing refrigeration boxes of various sizes for personal or delivery vehicles. In the beginning, the work employs two or three clients, but over time the production should increase to employ more workers. We are looking forward to this growth and opportunity, as we believe it is another positive step for our clients as they work toward independent living.

IN APPRECIATION
On April 8, 2009, the Evangelical Church in Modra held a last farewell for our brother in Christ, priest Vladimir Šefrankom, who died suddenly on April 6, 2009, at the age of 70. His wish was that instead of flowers or donations in the church, that a collection be taken and donated to our facility. We want to thank the family, supporters, and all who attended this farewell and who support our service. The financial collection dedicated to our organization from this memorial was € 1.450,94.

THANK YOU!
SED, the organization behind Dom na Pol Ceste (a half-way house) in Velky Slavkov, is grateful to the students and teachers at the Evangelical Elementary School in Martin for their financial support. The school donated 187.30 euros, representing an offering collected during an Easter concert on April 2, 2009. Thank you for thinking of our ministry when you organized your concert!

THANK YOU!
S SED, the organization which runs Dom na Polceste, would like to thank the church and choir of the Poprad Lutheran Church for the opportunity to inform its members of our ministry. At the church’s invitation, on January 25, 2009, we participated in worship together and had time to give a presentation and hear the testimony from one of our clients. The church provided a kind and loving atmosphere for us, and also contributed financially (552 euros) to our organization. Thank you for supporting our ministry!

THE START OF A FULL LIFE!
SEM, a national youth organization in Slovakia, with the support of the endowment fund of Slovak Telekom implemented a project in our facility with the name: a full life!

The project is aimed at promoting and developing information and communication technology skills to young people who grew up in children's homes, graduates of special boarding schools, and young people without shelter. Its aim is to teach the target group how to search, sort and practically use the important information that will improve their living conditions, increase their employability and help them socially and physically live. Project activities will begin in our facilities in early February 2009 and will run until end of May 2009.
